"I bought this coat last year for two daughters and I have to say I was disappointed that after first wear, it was already pilled and became "old-looking". I don't know if that's the quality it was supposed to be as it was my first coat order from Bodens... but for the amounts I paid, I didn't think it was worth it. Nonetheless, because I ordered other Bodens items and loved it, I decided to keep these coats. The girls have no choice but to wear it despite the heavy pilling. I hope not to see that again in future Bodens orders. I gave it a fair overall rating because the look is nice BEFORE it was first worn. I think you'd have to keep it in closet and not have it worn to avoid pilling unfortunately."

"I was a huge fan of Boden duffle coats and had one every year to keep both my girls cosy. However, when they changed the wool structure a couple of years ago I found them too bobble ever so quickly and to an incredible extent. This is fine if you only plan to use one for your Sunday best but mine always seem to end up as school coats by the coldest part of the winter! Anyhow, decided to give this one a go because it was grey (for school), and decided to order the 5-6 for my daughter who would normally wear the next size up but these were always generous to say the very least. Alas, that problem has been fixed (hurray) and it was far too small! It is now in the cupboard for her sister to use next winter. The material is the same as the first one I had from the upgraded model and you can instantly tell that bobbling would occur easily. Lastly, I note a few people mentioned the zip... Yes, our zip is flimsy and awful too! My 7yo really struggled to get the zip up when trying this on, she must've tried at least 15 times before getting thoroughly frustrated but getting it zipped all the same. I struggled too and there is a 'knack' to it, which a younger child going out for playtime or similar would not manage to do themselves! It doesn't sound like it, but I do love the duffle coats, they look great and the sizing is so much better maybe a balance between the old style and the new style would be workable for the children who have to wear them and the parents who have to pay!!!!"

"We are big fans of these Boden coats; they look fabulous and generally wear well. However, I'm not sure about this one. The material of the grey model is not as high quality as previous coats; it is like thick, rather stiff felt. As others have pointed out the zip is very feeble. The coat hasn't been worn enough to bobble but I can see how it would. To be honest I much prefer the previous design - without the flap pockets and back belt trim - and the previous material.
If it were down to me and if I had paid the non-sale price it would be going straight back. It's staying because my daughter loves it and her father thinks it's a real bargain!"

"I have been buying the boden duffle coats consistently for the last 3-4 years and they have lasted enough for me to hand down from my eldest to youngest child.Within 2 weeks this coat has started pilling and the seam under the arm has come undone. I will be returning this and hope next winter's duffle coats wil see boden revert back to the original fabric."

"I can't believe all the negative reviews on this coat. I think its PERFECT. My daughter has worn it every day and still looks like new! I have found spills and marks just wipe away with a damp cloth. I think it looks like it should 'Nobby'. I agree you can't put thick jumpers etc underneath but you wouldn't want to as the coat would be warm enough. Received nothing but compliments even from strangers. Hope its available next year too!"

"This coat is super cute on my 4 year old and she loves it. I agree with the pilling though. Ours pilled pretty bad on the FIRST wearing. That having been said, it survived a dunk in the Bethesda fountain (oops on that one) and dry cleaned without shrinking. It is a pretty everyday coat but due to the pilling isn't a special occasion coat. Having grown up in the midwest and now being in TX, I agree that it is too slim for very cold climates (there isn't enough room for bulky sweaters) but will be great for TX where it doesn't get too cold. Wish it was a little less expensive for the quality though. I wouldn't expect such pilling so quickly from an $88 coat. The upside is that Boden is a great alternative to cookie cutter children's stores."

"We bought this coat for my little girl and after a few days wear it started to look very old and tatty. The customer Services at Boden were very helpful and we were given a full refund."

"looked very attractive on the website but had to return it just after three weeks.
the quality of the outer wool is very bad and it started to look worn out and old.
the fit is not to bad but felt tight at the arms.
has been the most expensive coat bought therefore was dissapointed with the overall rating.
HOWEVER the customer service is excellent therefore would recomend close friends to maybe veiw other items."

"I ordered this in pink for my 6 year old to replace last years much loved and complimented Mini Boden toggle coat.
She had the spotty corduroy version from a previous season. It was her favorite coat and was the best ever purchased.
We received compliments everywhere we went, it still looked brand new after 2 winters of wear.

Sadly, this seaons version missed the mark, much too itchy, the fabric was a felted wool that had a rough texture. The size was a slimmer cut than previous versions.

Why mess with a good thing? Please bring back the corduroy version!!!!I"

"These coats looked gorgeous in the catalogue so I ordered one grey one and a pink one for my 7 year old twins. The lining was great and it looked lovely on. However after only a few weeks of wearing it the fabric began to pill, especially on the grey one, and they both looked really scruffy. I was really disappointed and asked for a refund which Boden did without question and apologised. Excellent customer service but poor coats!"

"Its great looking, and I love the quilted inside that others don't have, but its tight under the arms. I didn't notice it as much when she first tried it on, but its hard to get a sweater under the coat. The trimmer look is nice, but next year leave more room under the arms for layers"

"Bought this when it came out. Grey duffle for my 7 year old girl and pink for the 4 year old. The pink duffle is lovely and has worn well , and has been worn often.The grey duffle my 7 year old has only worn twice as she wears another coat to school every day( North Yorkshire has been cold for months already this year).After only wearing the grey duffle twice (yes 2 times) the fabric seems to be coming apart. There is also bad piling on the sleeves. So disappointed as I now struggle to find a replacement."

"Ordered the grey duffel for my daughter. It looks fab and really funky. She loves it and its really warm and cosy. The fabric does pill a bit but we will see how it goes.
Fit is good, comes up quite big but thats fine as it lasts a couple of years, better value for money!
We had a cord duffel before and that wore really well and lasted two winters so am hoping for the same thing with this coat.
Overall it just looks great!"

"My daughter absolutely loves this coat!!!!! She says it is warm and comfortable. What else can a girl ask for, right ladies? We visit Vermont a lot and she says besides her ski coat, her Boden coat is the best. Thank you for making great clothing with even better style."

"This is a lovely, warm coat that my daughter loves. She is a tall, slender 7 year old, so I originally ordered the 7/8, but returned it for a 9/10. I think we'll get 2 winters out of it. My only complaint would be the zipper; it is somewhat light-duty for an active child. Otherwise, we love it!"

"I was very excited to get this coat. My daughter is almost 3 1/2 and the 3-4 was perfect. We get many compliments and it seems to be quite warm. My only complaint is that the outside tends to "fuzz" a bit when rubbed against anything, but it is easily removed."

"This is the second one I have bought for my daughter and I'm sure I'll be buying another one next year. I bought this in a 2-3 years for my 4 year old as they do come up big as nearly all Boden coats do. I'd advise checking the measurements before you buy."
